Center for Astronomy and Space Sciences opens at University of Sharjah, Emirates
In July 2014, German company Kurt Hüttinger GmbH & Co. KG was awarded the contract to design and fabricate an interactive gallery for the foyer of the Sharjah Center for Space Sciences and Astronomy (SCASS).
The new facility offers educational programmes as well as research and studies in special labs. The exhibition in its center also showcase the contributions of Muslims to astronomy. The center sheds light on the history of telescopes, satellites and space exploration.
Dr. Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in his capacity as President of the University of Sharjah, opened the Sharjah Center for Space Sciences and Astronomy (SCASS) on May 7, 2015.
The set design reflects a spaceship atmosphere and visitors act as explorers doing their personal research. The layout allows visitors to move freely within the themed areas, or to start a journey to the stars according to the storyline. Many experiments, are embedded in the circular space station like pods and some are located around them.
The detailed project documentation can be found online here.
