“Protist Rhapsody” is an immersive full-dome experience that merges art and science, inviting viewers into a chaotic microcosmos where the boundary between the digital and organic blurs. Inspired by the Physarum Polycephalum, this experimental animation follows the journey of a digital entity—an abstracted slime mold—grappling with the tension between its instinctive drives and external forces.

Brought to life through Uncharted Limbo’s custom algorithms, the Protist exhibits behaviors far beyond conventional Physarum simulations, embodying macroscopic agency and dynamic shape-shifting. The piece follows a cycle of Birth, Destruction, and Resurrection, offering a contemplative reflection on the delicate interplay of individuality and adaptation, the inner self and the external world.

Enhanced by Elias Aronidis’s original score, which earned the “Best Sound-Driven Work” award at SAT Fest 2024, “Protist Rhapsody” transcends conventional animation to become a meditative exploration of digital Life.
