Description
When was the last time you took a moment to really look at one small ordinary thing, just for looking at it?
In 2022 the amount of pictures and signals we’re exposed to in digital worlds on a daily basis can be quite intense and we’re pretty much auto-trained to swipe and assimilate large quantities of content. This piece is about taking time to observe, taking a break from the continuous data flow.
JACINTHE.XYZ started with a simple constraint: Using one single ordinary subject as an immersive piece starting point, focusing on its visual properties and work from there. Like a classic still life, but in space and time. So I started creating using one unique point cloud file : Jacinthe.xyz
JACINTHE.XYZ explores the full color palette of one single 3D photogrammetric scan of a group of hyacinths sitting on my window in Vernon, France, back in early 2021. Using real-time modulations and distortions the goal was to push the available material characteristics into different visual rhythms creating an abstract narrative that take advantage of the whole immersive canvas, without adding extra elements or other subjects. The visuals were first captured in one live session using a midi controller to fully modulate the scan.
To support the idea of slowing down and going back to some sort of simplicity, the talented french musician Clément Putegnat worked on the soundtrack from the visuals, then recorded one single live clarinet/looper improvisation session. The result is a mesmerizing analog mix synergizing with the painterly feel of the visuals. Bringing in some acoustic poetry and expanding the oneiric narrative.
Then, to close the inspirational loop I captured a final live visual session based on Clément’s soundtrack.
JACINTHE.XYZ is about connecting with the present moment a bit more, slowing down to contemplate the tiny ordinary beautiful things we usually swipe away, with a fresh mindset.
