Job Opportunity: Planetarium Operator at Orange Coast College
The Orange Coast College Planetarium is looking to hire a part-time Planetarium operator/educator. The position is mean to assist the Planetarium Director in developing and presenting planetarium shows to school field trips, private rentals, and regular public programs using Digistar 6. The presenter will also help to conduct and develop activities for the planetarium exhibit space and NOAA Science on a Sphere.

Orange Coast College Planetarium - (On-campus Employment)
Pay rate: $17.00 per hour - Project Assistant
Duties:
The presenter will perform a variety of support duties to prepare and present planetarium shows to support the permanent staff of the planetarium. The presenter will be expected to, as directed, assist the staff in the completion of a variety of technical projects related to preparation of the shows and will execute some related, administrative and office support functions related to the project assignment including assisting with the scheduling of show times, working with student workers and interacting with the patrons. They will exercise good judgment and there is a mid-level expectation of independent judgment while completing their work under the direction of the supervisor. The presenter will have significant responsibility for the implementation of assigned shows and oversight of the student assistants.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- work experience with public speaking and/or performing
- interpersonal skills
- basic knowledge of introductory astronomy
- AV experience is desirable
Hours of Work to be Arranged:
- Flexible schedule, will include most Saturdays starting in January 2022
- Hours to be arranged between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, but some events might run as late as 10pm or 11pm. Saturdays events typically run from late morning to evening.
- 20 hours per week
The Orange Coast College planetarium, constructed in 2019, is a new and exciting addition to the OCC Campus. Located in the heart of Orange County, California, the planetarium is a stunning facility offering an incredible experience for staff and visitors alike!
